Started with a good stack of 8/4 rustic cherry and was able to end up at 1-7/8” thickness. This table is sturdy!
All dowel joints, no screws. A thick chamfer on the inside edge of the profile softens the rectangular shape. Edges were sanded by hand - this felt like a better look with the rustic lumber than a perfect round-over with the router.
The table is an attractive centerpiece with the glass inlay, and the end tables will be finished soon.

fat stack of 8/4 Rustic Cherry lumber
it's fun to see the raw color before exposure to the sun with cherry
fresh glue up of the base for the table
no screws in this table, every joint doweled for strength.
I really liked this hardwax oil. A bit more durable than danish oil and very easy to apply.
the inside chamfer around the corners really softens the dominant rectangular shape of this heavy table
